Dear Japan,
Please stop it with cocks in giant robots.
As a fan of the popular video game series, Super Robot Wars, I have come to an understanding that the humongous mecha genre is ultimately a male dominated genre, and it is within reason to expect that the majority of characters featured in Super Robot Wars would be male.
That said, I really could use a party that is less of a sausage fest.
Most giant robot shows feature male main characters, and main characters are generally the strongest character of the series they represent whenever they appear in Super Robot Wars, this is understandeble. The problem however, lies in the fact that with all these male leads being the stronger characters, my SRW parties generally end up looking like a fangirl's harem.
Now this would be nice if I were a fangirl, but as it would seem, I am not.
So please, please, please make a few more mecha series with a female protaganist. Dancouga Nova is the only one I can think of that was made in the past few years, and a single 12 episode series is nowhere near enough to bridge the gap.
Now I'm not insisting on a 50/50 ratio, I can live with a majority of mecha shows with male heroes. That said however, I would like a little more then a single pair of tits for every 20 dicks shoved in my face.

I don't want to be perceived as a sex-cial but I felt in some ways, male is the stronger gender when handling machinery.
ReplyDeleteIn reality, men are the ones dominating profession like piloting fighter plane, forklift operator, crane operator, tow truck & etc. Even in sport such as F1 and Grandpix, it's the man's world.
We are so used to having male as the hero in robot animes like Gundam, Macross, Mospeada, Orguss etc. Well, there are still some popular female pilots like in Patlabor and Evangelion.
The thing is, nobody wants to see female heroes. Men want to see male heroes and women want angsty bishounen.
ReplyDelete...Theres always sky girls -_^
ReplyDelete...you get dicks shoved in your face???
ReplyDeleteyou really hang out in the wrong places...
your really just pissed that you cant have the man you really want - Kamina!
Obligatory link.
ReplyDeleteI haven't figured out way there is no Mecha shows with female leads as of late, not even the token female team member that seemed to be the staple in 90s.
ReplyDeleteThey've done it before female leads before. Gunbuster and Eva are the first to come to mind, and think there were a few of others, but I can't remember the titles.
So yea come on Japan combine two great things Moe and Mecha.
Awwww, poor thing. If I were a dude, I will DEFINITELY bring up the same topic.
ReplyDeleteI am aware that there are female leads/teams with mechas shows, BUT they are not mainstream. I am GLAD that GAINAX had some fair parts for females and mechas, gawd I so love them. (watch Gurren Lagann final/2nd anime movie! Nia is gonna freakin' kickass having her own mecha & fighting alonside SUPER Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann eventhough knowing that she will die if the humans defeated Anti-Spiral as well -ops, spoilers-)
I think Sky Girls & Busou Shinki?? are what you're looking for, check it out. ;)
Speaking of female protagonists, the one for Gundam MS IGLOO 2 episode 3 is a girl, who pilots a Ground Assault Type Guntank and is pretty badass o_o...
ReplyDeleteSomeone forgot Yoko ;_;
ReplyDelete*pats yoko*
Strike witches is kinda mecha too.
Gosh, forgetting the important ones.
Its craptatsic but Idolmaster Xenoglossia has female Mechapilots.
ReplyDeleteDid i mention that its crap?
